I have sauteed several meals using coconut oil. My family of 5 have not seemed to notice that I switched oils on them. I like using coconut oil to pan fry things in instead of olive oil To change things up a bit. I have noticed when I add coconut oil to my morning smoothies, I feel more energetic!
I also decided to make one of my favorite treats to try out this coconut oil- magic shell. All it takes is coconut oil and chocolate chips. You melt them together and then pour it over your ice cream and voila! you have magic shell! This was easy and fun, next time I will let my kids make it! The recipe I used called for 1/2 cup of coconut oil and 1 cup of chocolate chips. I thought there was a slight coconut flavor to the shell, but I thought it really added to the flavor!
Coconut oil is not only for cooking, it makes an excellent addition to your beauty regimen. I used it as a leave in conditioner on my hair. I just put some in my hands and brushed it through with my fingers and I am telling you, my hair has never been so shiny or soft in my life. I really wish I would have thought of this sooner. I think I will continue to do this once a week. I left it on for 20 minutes and then washed my hair like normal. I have been using coconut oil for years as a moisturizer. I have really dry skin and it works so well at helping relieve that dryness. A friend of mine suggested I try it as a make up remover, which I did...once again, with fabulous results. If you use it as a make up remover, then you've already moisturized your face with it.
The uses and benefits of coconut oil are endless. There are 100's of ways to use coconut oil!

I may be one of the rare people that has never used coconut oil. My mom used to use it all of the time when I was younger, but I never did.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that it's rare at all. I think it is more rare that I have found someone that HAS used coconut oil! I think more people should try it though! What did your mom use it for?
DeleteMy mom used to use it on her skin and this quit. Then the coconut oil sat there for years until she finally got rid of it.
DeleteI use it for the hard shell too, but my favorite is baking with it, I love the subtle coconut flavor.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I need to make some oatmeal raisi;0n cookies with it. That just sounds delicious!
DeleteI have used it for stretch marks :)

DeleteI use coconut oil for all my frying and in recipes.cardshark42(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI tried using it for cooking eggs once when I attempted a certain diet. Didn't taste quite right. That fudge recipe on the website looks awesome though, so I might try that. :-) I think I also attempted homemade diaper cream with coconut oil and corn starch.
ReplyDeleteI will admit that I don't particularly like it with eggs either. I use olive oil or grapeseed oil for that. Coconut oil works well (at least in my opinion) in baking and even in rice!
DeleteI've used it. I like it in my granola. I also like using it in my Coconut Banana Rum Pancakes.
ReplyDeleteThose sound like some fantasic pancakes!

I have spread it on bread before :)

I use coconut oil to cook my popcorn! Yum! I use coconut oil as a face moisturizer, too. haha. :)
ReplyDeleteI have heard that is what movie theaters do as well, maybe it is why their popcorn always tastes so much better? :)
DeleteI also use it as a moisturizer and makeup remover and as I said in this post, discovered it makes a fantastic hair conditioner as well!
I use it on my damp skin after I shower ....wow, I love it! Leaves my skin glowing and moisturized.

I started using coconut oil about a year ago while I was trying an ayurvedic technique called oil pulling. I discovered how soft it made my lips feel and have since used it on my skin, my hair, and in meal preparation. I have shared the many uses with my daughter and she loves it too! I am about out my supply so it would be great to win a new one! Also I hadn't heard of the company before and am interested in how it may be different. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletei havent tried coconut oil yet but i would love too! i think i would want to try and make some oatmeal raisins with it!
