"When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils...Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?"
It is described as a blackly comedy that is thought provoking and constantly surprising!
I will be counting down the days until September 27th! You can pre-order The Casual Vacancy now at Amazon.com
This sounds a great book! I can't believe we have to wait till the END of the summer :) lol
ReplyDeleteI am anxiously waiting, it sounds like a great plot to me. :)
DeleteHmm...not sure if it's my kind of story or not. Though I do love the Harry Potter books!
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that! When the first Harry Potter novel came out, I was in High School and didn't think I would like it because it was a "kid's book." I never read them until the first book came out and fell in love, so sometimes you just don't know. This novel does sound WAY different than Harry Potter, but I am pretty sure at this point, I would read anything that Rowling's creative mind doled out to see if she can do it again!
DeleteThis sounds like such a great book, I think I'm going to have to read it!
