Unreal Candy Review

Finally! A candy that I do not mind my kids eating. Unreal's philosophy is the"unjunk" candy! This means no hydrogenated oils, no artificial flavors or colors, no corn syrups AND no gentically modified organisms.  

I know you are wondering "okay, but does it taste good?" I have tried several different types of Unreal candy now and they were all good, if not better than their traditional counterparts. There is a caramel and peanut bar, much like a snickers that I think tastes way better! Same with the peanut butter cups. My 3 toughest critics, my 3 year old twins and my 5 year old, all devoured the m & m like candy that I shared with them. They didn't seem to notice a difference.  I know exactly what treats I will be putting in their Christmas stockings this year!

Unreal candy is available at your local CVS. I have heard they are also available at some Kroger stores and Walgreens, but unfortunately not the ones in my area just yet. This is a new brand and it according to the Unreal website, it will soon be available in over 30,000 stores nationwide, including Target in October!

What I love so much about this candy, other than that it allows me to satisfy my sweet tooth or give my kids a sweet treat without the guilt of wondering what harm the ingredients are doing them is that the idea for Unreal came from a dad and his 13 year old son. I love that a child wanted to do something about the problem!

Newman's Own Organics Review & Giveaway

I have been eating Newman's Own Organics products for at least the last 6 years. I was practically ADDICTED to the Fig Newman's during each of my pregnancies! I love their products so much, I knew I wanted to do a review and giveaway here to share my love with you! I am so excited that I am getting that opportunity now! There are several reasons that I seek to buy Newman's Own Organic products. One is that they are organic and do not contain unsafe ingredients, so I feel safe serving them to my family and consuming them myself. The other reason is that they have helped contribute to charity through the Newman's Own Foundation which has raised over 300 million dollars since it began!

Newman's Own Organics started as a division of Newman's Own when Nell Newman approached her father Paul about starting an organic line in 1992. He agreed to cover expenses for one year with one stipulation- that the seed money be returned once the company was established, so that they could add it to the charity money. They not only did this, but Newman's Own Organics became it's own company in 2001.

Newman's Own Organics sent me a box full of various items from their product line. This included Newman O's (think organic Oreo's!) My favorite Fig Newman's (which we immediately devoured!) Various flavored and sour licorice's, several types of chocolate treats, several different types of mints, pretzels and a few bags of cookies!

If I had to choose an overall favorite, I would probably pick the chocolate bars. To me there is just something so tasty and comforting about a good bar of organic chocolate. Believe me, I have tried most of them and this is one of the best out there! I feel comfortable letting my kids eat this chocoate because I know Newman's Own Organics only uses the best ingredients in their products and I don't have to worry about artificial ingredients like high fructose corn syrup!

My four year old daughter's favorite treats were the Newman's Own Organic PopCorn and theSalted Pretzel Sticks. She and my two year old twin boys ALL really enjoyed the organic dried cranberries. I managed to get a few bites of those and agree that they were super tasty!

I sent the Newman O's to work with my husband. He and his fellow nurses in the Emergency Room really enjoyed them. In fact, he told me several asked him where they could purchase those delicious cookies!! My husband is also a big mint fan and he has really been enjoying the peppermints and the wintergreen mints!



We truly loved everything we have tried from Newman's Own Organics, there is not a bad product in the bunch! I wanted to share some of their great products with you! Conscious Box Review

If you haven't heard of the subscription box craze currently happening, you are really missing out! It is a really neat way to get a box full of little surprises delivered to your mailbox each month. If you are frequent reader of this blog, you have heard of a few that I have posted about. And you are about to hear about a third one, Conscious Box. It takes the same formula of other subscription boxes and ads an Eco twist- all product samples are from green and ethical companies- no crazy chemicals or animal testing here! This does make Conscious Box slightly more expensive at $19 shipped, but I think it is a great way to try new organic and natural products for a newbie to natural living or for those of us who have been on this journey for a while. It's definitely fun to get a box full of various new products to try each month, I highly recommend it!

Here is what was in the April box-

 There were definitely several products I plan to purchase in the near future. I really enjoyed sharing the Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn in Original Kettle corn with my 4 yr old daughter. I LOVED that I could give her some without worrying that it contained any genetic modifications or high fructose corn syrup. It was great to have a pre packaged sweet treat and not feel guilty over what we might be poisining our bodies with. I definitely plan to buy more from Oogies!

I was also super impressed with the Climb On Intensive Skin Repair. I had recently taken a fall that left me with a scrape on my knee and the skin repair felt wonderful and cooling on it. I even applied a little of the skin repair to my chapped lips. It's amazing stuff!

 I enjoyed the samples of laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid. Both performed very well, but my very favorite product in this box was the banana and dark chocolate bar by Clandestino. It was delicious and of course all natural and I am pretty sure I am going to start working out more so I have a great excuse to use this "fuel" product! Although, I am sure you can use it without working out, it makes a great precursor to a long or intense workout because of the banana in it! And anything covered in tasty dark chocolate is pretty amazing in my book.

As previously mentioned, Conscious Box is $19 a month (this is the total with shipping) which I think is well worth it for the quality and amount of product samples you receive. What an excellent way to discover products that are not only better for the environment, but for you and your family as well.

Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn- Facebook giveaway

I just got my first Conscious Box (review coming very soon!!) and one of the products that really stood out to me was Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn. The sample I received was a bag of original kettle corn and it was SOOO good. It contained just the right amount of sweetness and I love that is is made from GMO free corn and without the use of high fructose corn syrup. (we do not consume genetically modifed food or anything containing high fructose corn syrup in our home, so this is a BIG WIN for me!)

I liked the product so much, I immediately went to Oogie's Facebook page to find out more about the company where I discovered they have a pretty amazing ongoing giveaway. Quaker Oatmeal Squares Review

I am always so excited when I receive something in the mail from Bzzagent, especially when it is more on the "natural" side of things. I have heard of Quaker Oatmeal Squares, but had yet to try them. We are not a "cereal for breakfast" kind of household because I wanted my kids (who are 4, 2 & 2) to start off with good eating habits and I feel like a lot of breakfast cereals are just full of sugar and no good nutrients.  We do have cereal for a snack every now and then, so that is how I served this cereal to the kids. Before allowing them to eat it, I read the nutrition label on the side of the box to see exactly what I was giving them. I was happy to see that the first ingredient on the box of Honey Nut Quaker Oats was whole grain flour. And that the second was whole wheat flour. I was also happy to see that, further down the ingredient list, was barley, a great source of fiber! I was delighted to see that there was no high fructose corn syrup to be found, my kids would not have been eating it otherwise and that there is a high amount of protein and fiber in this cereal. Things sounds great on the box, but I knew the real test would be seeing if the kids liked it or not. I sat them all around thetable and gave each a small bowl of the dry cereal for a snack. And there was not a crumb left. I even caught Noah, one of my two year old twin boys, trying to sneak more out of the box! I tried it myself and loved that it was just sweet enough, but still pretty healthy, as far as a boxed cereal is concerned.

I definitely plan to try all of the other flavors- in addition to the honey nut flavor there are Cinnamon, Brown Sugar and the Walmart Exclusive Golden Maple. Maybe we will start having a bowl of cereal for breakfast every now and then afterall.
