Summary from Goodreads:

One halo brought sight to Brielle. Another offers sweet relief from what she sees.
Brielle can’t help but see the Celestial realm. Even without the halo, it’s everywhere she looks. And with the heavens above Stratus ravaged by war, Brielle wishes for another gift, any gift. Because Jake is gone. The only boy she’s ever loved has been taken by the demon, Damien—and she knows if she ever wants to see him again, she must fight.
But fighting is so hard when everything you see makes you afraid.
When she receives instructions from the Throne Room leading her to Jake, she unknowingly walks into a diabolical and heartbreaking trap. Then the Prince of Darkness himself offers Brielle a halo of his own making. With the dark halo, she won’t have to see the fear and brokenness that surround her. She’ll be free of that unbearable burden. And it comes with a promise: the guarantee of a life with Jake.
When confusing details about Jake’s past emerge, and the battle above reaches a fever pitch, Brielle is forced to make a choice. Will she choose the dark halo and the ignorance that comes with it, or will she choose to live with her eyes wide open and trust the Creator’s design—even if it means a future without Jake?

My thoughts: From the moment I picked up Angel Eyes, I knew I would be hooked on this trilogy and need to follow through until the end. Angel Eyes was a great book on it's own, Broken Wings (the second in the trilogy) did what many middle books can not do, it held my attention and wasn't just filler in the middle, the book was full of action, suspense and, of course, romance. I love books that leave me on the edge of my seat, especially when they have subsequent books for me to continue on the journey with the characters. Dark Halo picked up where Broken Wings left off. There were questions to be answered and I think the novel did a great job of tying everything together. Dittemore has a lovely way with words and is great at putting a story together and telling it in a way that will make you want to keep turning the pages. You get attached to these characters and you want the best for them. I was rooting for Brielle and Jake when things seemed to be against them. There is a good amount of action in this book, Brielle even comes face to face with the devil and has to make a huge decision. There is a huge battle and people that you might not have previously expected to step up to the plate do. This was an action packed young adult novel that I think many people would enjoy. I am pretty sure I said this when I review both of the previous books, but I would love to see this trilogy come to life in movie form. I think that the strong characters and world Dittemore has created in the Angel Eyes Series would make a great movie trilogy! I recommend the Angel Eyes trilogy to anyone who enjoys novels in the young adult, Christian fiction or paranormal romance genres. I would caution those that have trouble reading stories with violence about reading these novels, but I think overall most people would enjoy the Angel Eyes trilogy.

Broken Wings (Angel Eyes #2) by Shannon Dittemore Book Review

About the book:

Giant angels with metal wings and visible song. A blind demon restored from the pit of darkness. And a girl who has never felt more broken.

Brielle sees the world as it really is: a place where the Celestial exists side by side with human reality. But in the aftermath of a supernatural showdown, her life begins to crumble. Her boyfriend, Jake, is keeping something from her—something important. Her overprotective father has started drinking again. He’s dating a much younger woman who makes Brielle’s skin crawl, and he’s downright hostile toward Jake. Haunting nightmares keep Brielle from sleeping, and flashes of Celestial vision keep her off kilter.

What she doesn’t know is that she’s been targeted. The Prince of Darkness himself has heard of the boy with healing in his hands and of the girl who sees through the Terrestrial Veil. When he plucks the blind demon, Damien, from the fiery chasm and sends him back to Earth with new eyes, the stage is set for a cataclysmic battle of good versus evil.

Then Brielle unearths the truth about her mother’s death and she must question everything she ever thought was true.

Brielle has no choice. She knows evil forces are converging and will soon rain their terror down upon the town of Stratus. She must master the weapons she’s been given. She must fight.

But can she fly with broken wings?

*Disclosure- I was provided a complimentary copy of Broken Wings from the publisher via Book Sneeze. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions stated are 100% my own.
My thoughts:

Last year I feel in love when I was able to debut Shannon Dittemore's debut novel Angel Eyes. I was impressed by the great writing and also the new spin on paranormal fiction featuring angels and demons. I was even more excited to find out that Angel Eyes was to be a trilogy and could barely contain myself waiting for Broken Wings to come out!  That day finally arrived and here I am again impatient for August for the final book in the triology, Dark Halo. I can not wait to see how this series ends!

Broken Wings picks up where Angel Eyes had left off. Main characters Brielle and Jake have graduated from high school and survived some pretty intense stuff (I don't want to be too detailed and spoil the first book for anyone who has yet to read it) In the second novel, Brielle's dad has begun seeing someone new named Olivia, who has Brielle on edge...is it because her dad hasn't been serious with anyone for as long as she can remember and she is jealous or does she have good reason to be weary? Brielle's dad has also become a regular drinker adding more stress to Brielle's already pretty crazy life. The Halo that Jake gave her is not taming her nightmares as they once did. What does this mean? Broken Wings is full of questions and characters and interweaving of stories that I think will be concluded in the final novel of the trilogy. Sometimes the books in the middle of these series can be somewhat boring and drawn out, but not Broken Wings. Dittemere's writing style is just so inviting and addicting. She knows how to keep the reader turning those pages. The writing is so descriptive and vibrant that I constantly keep catching myself thinking I would love to watch this trilogy unfold  in a series of movies. I can only hope that it happens! I recommend this story to anyone who enjoys paranormal fiction or the young adult genre. It will not disappoint.

Angel Eyes by Shannon Dittemore- Book Review/Blog Tour

Summary of Angel Eyes-

Once you've seen, you can't unsee. Everything changes when you've seen the world through...
Angel Eyes

Brielle went to the city to chase her dreams and found tragedy instead. She comes home to shabby little Stratus, Oregon, to live with her grief and guilt...and the incredible, numbing cold she can't seem to shake.

Jake's the new guy at school. The boy next door with the burning hands and an unbelievable gift that Targets him for corruption.

Something more than fate has brought them together. An evil bigger than both of them lurks in the shadows nearby, hiding in plain sight. Two angels stand guard, unsure what's going to happen. And a beauty brighter than Jake or Brielle have ever seen  is calling them to join the battle in a realm where all human choices start.

A realm that only angels and demons- and Brielle can perceive.

About the Author-

Shannon is a wife and mother. A sister. A daughter. A friend. She was raised in Northern California by her parents-pastors of their local church and constant figures of inspiration.

As a youth, Shannon traveled with an award-winning performing arts team, excelling on stage and in the classroom. As a young adult, she attended Portland Bible College, continued acting, and worked with an outreach team targeting inner-city kids in the Portland-Metropolitan area.

It was in Portland that she met her husband, Matt. They were married in 2002. Soon after, they took the reigns of the youth ministry at Living Way Community Church in Roseville, California where they continue to serve in that capacity. In 2004, their son, Justus was born, followed by their daughter Jazlyn, born in 2008.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved Angel Eyes. It is a book in the Young Adult genre, which I particularly enjoy and seems to be very popular with many readers at the moment. (Think The Hunger Games or Twilight but with a message of faith) I was very relieved to see a book about the super natural that WAS NOT about vampires...or werewolves. This book is about angels and demons, about good and evil. I really enjoyed getting to know both Jake and Brielle in this story. I love Dittemore's writing style, she had me turning page after page to see what would happen next, I just couldn't put this book down. I quite enjoyed the other "realm" where Jake and Brielle discover that they both have different gifts and that realm also changes how they see the world and the people in it. I loved the action packed ending. Angel Eyes was full of action, suspense and just the right amount of romance.

This is a debut novel, one of the best I have read in a while. I am so excited that this is the first in a trilogy. I can not wait to read the next two! I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys, Christian fiction, paranormal fiction, romance or the YA genre.
